2003, plastic figures, table 31" h x 36" dia.
Plastic figures from numerous sets are placed in a grid on an imitation wood-surfaced tabletop. Each is poised to strike, shoot, stab or gore in a single direction. Despite the violent nature of each figure, the forced unidirectional placement of the lot gives them a ridiculous feel.
I first did this piece in grad school. In the earlier incarnation, the figures were set on a square plywood grid I painted white. Each figure was separated by Plexiglas barriers that ran along the plywood grid, giving each figure its own compartment. There were effective things about that presentation, but I prefer the use of the table. It places the figures more in the domestic realm.
